History
In the first decade of this century, both globally and within the Central European region, including the Czech Republic, there was a growing tendency to understand security issues in a more comprehensive way, particularly with a focus on protecting the population from emergencies and crisis situations. Until then, there had been no periodical addressing this broad and multifaceted topic. Therefore, in 2008, the Population Protection Institute in Lázně Bohdaneč launched the publication of the journal The Science for Population Protection.
Since its inception in 2008, the journal has focused on presenting original scientific papers dedicated to the science of security issues, contributing to the advancement of knowledge about maintaining the balance between safety and danger—especially in the areas of security policy, political science, public administration, fire protection, civil protection, population protection, protection of critical infrastructure including information systems, security technology, and security technologies from the perspective of social, information, medical, military, technical, natural, legal, historical, and other sciences.
Over time, the journal has developed within its field of focus into a periodical primarily dealing with thematic areas such as the security environment and security policy; population protection, crisis management, and critical infrastructure; security education; and security research. In 2024, these thematic areas were consolidated into six categories along with the journal’s transition to a new editorial system, each category being overseen by one of six guaranteeing institutions (the Ministry of the Interior – General Directorate of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic and five university faculties).
