CIVILIAN IMPACT OF ECONOMIC SANCTIONS: CASE OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF YUGOSLAVIA

The article is dedicated to the economic sanctions imposed by the UN
Security Council against Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) in 1992,
strengthened a year later before being called off in 1996; especially focusing on
their impact on the civilian population of FRY. The article maps the impact on the
unemployment, demographics, disposable income & savings, health & social
affairs, and overall economic situation in the country, together with the way the
Yugoslav citizens have adapted to the hardships of the sanctions regime. The
objective of the article is to make reader acquainted with the focus topic and to
help putting the civilian population into consideration when sanctions are
considered.
