DETERMINATION OF CHARACTERISTICS OF LOCAL FIRE IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE STANDARDS FOR FIRE SAFETY ASSESSMENT OF BUILDINGS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

The article describes standard and different procedure for evaluating the fire safety of
buildings. The attention is also focused on the stage of fire development, which is described by
local fire, more precisely its part Fire Plume. The use of local fire is currently limited in the
Czech Republic. The reason is the complexity of methods for evaluating of local fire
characteristics and, in particular, the lack of link of methods for evaluating of Fire Plume
characteristics to the national environment. The article presents the procedures for
determination of Fire Plume characteristics in relation to the national standard, which is
a procedure based on values of the fire load and a procedure based on weight speed of burnout
of the substance. The procedures are an instrument for more complex assessment of local fire
and for the achievement of more effective building design in terms of fire safety. The article also
presents the equations that are the result of analytical work from the last years, and those
equations create a link between foreign procedures for the evaluation of Fire Plume
characteristics and national standards for designing of fire safety buildings in the Czech
Republic.
