The current geopolitical developments in the European region forms increasing
demands in the field of counter-terrorism efforts. Easy availability of production materials and
difficult detectability of explosives makes IED (Improvised explosive device) the terrorists
weapon of choice. The Emergency Service of the Czech Republic is implementing newly
developed technology of ultra-trace explosive detection system. Amplifying fluorescent polymer
(AFP) is a technology of highly sensitive electrochemical detection. The assessment of
advantages and limitations of the new technology, compared with explosive detection dogs, was
carried out. The inspection of persons and sampling methodics were created and the possibility
of false positive and false negative alarm was discussed.
