The aim of the research is to propose a suitable combination or modification of
existing disaster triage methods to achieve the highest sensitivity for critically ill patients and
the lowest undertriage and overtriage. The evaluation of ability to use START disaster triage
method is based on results of assigning priorities in a questionnaire and on a patient simulator.
90% sensitivity for critically ill patients was achieved only in the questionnaire, undertriage
was high. Modification of the triage method or more frequent periodical training could
contribute to improving results of fire-fighters in performing disaster triage.
