Abstract

Providing shelters for its citizens is one of the primary ways of protecting population
of the Czech Republic in crisis situations. It can be characterized as a use of civil protection
shelters and other suitable places, which due to their constructional or any other additional
modifications are adaptable to the population protection.
The article aims to analyse conditions of shelters mostly in permanent civil protection
shelters in the capital city of Prague and briefly compares the situation with the rest of the
country.
The analysis is based on the data the author obtained from various legal entities,
which collect all available information concerning the shelters. Those entities have a statutory
obligation to keep such records and to inspect the civil protection constructions and buildings
related to the requirements of civil protection.
